Irbesartan
Indications/Uses
HTN. Alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensives. HTN including renal disease in hypertensive diabetic patients.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN Initially 150 once a day. May be increased up to 300 mg once a day if BP reduction is not adequate. If BP is not controlled by irbesartan alone, a low dose of a diuretic eg, hydrochlorothiazide may be added. Max: 300 mg once a day. Patient who are vol- &/or salt-depleted eg, those treated vigorously w/ diuretics or on hemodialysis Initially 75 mg. Max: 300 mg. Adolescent 13-16 yr Initially 150 mg once daily. Patient requiring further BP reduction 300 mg once a day. Max: 300 mg daily. Childn 6-12 yr HTN Initially 75 mg once a day. Patient requiring further BP reduction 150 mg once a day. Max: 150 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe CHF, dehydration, unilateral/bilateral renal artery stenosis, renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, angioedema, hyperkalemia, jaundice, anxiety &/or nervousness, diarrhea, dizziness, dyspepsia & urticaria.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics, CYP450 2C9 isoenzyme inhibitors or medications metabolized by CYP450 2C9 eg, tolbutamide.
